Shoefiti Hazing Incident Described in Story
Looks like Bartholemew Pugg is the sinister element behind shoefiti on Virporta Island where he taunts Maxwell and throws his new shoes over tree branches:
Maxwell, at eleven, had realised an odd thing about adults - they always forgot stuff. Even important stuff. An adult would buy you new shoes, would drag you around shops for hours, and go on endlessly about how much they cost and what a nice style they were - but would forget about them the second you put a toe in them. You could come home with a big hole in the sole, or your important new shoes covered in mud and paint, or (as was often the case for Maxwell) your expensive new shoes dangling from a tree branch courtesy of Bartholemew Pugg, but it would never cross an adult’s mind to mention it.
