Shoefiti Marks Drug Dealing in Canton, Ohio
The Canton Repository ran an article on April 5th, where a Canton police sergeant explained that shoes hanging from power lines are a sign that illegal drugs are for sale nearby:
Shoes over wires: Could signify drugs, cause power outage
Don’t pound the “for sale” sign into your front lawn just yet.
That pair of athletic shoes strung over the utility lines doesn’t necessarily mean your neighbor is a drug dealer announcing he’s open for business.
Although it evidently has that meaning in some places.
Sgt. John Dittmore of the Canton Police Department’s Gang Task Force said that witnesses tell officers that hanging shoes can mean illegal drugs are for sale nearby.
“One hundred percent of the time? Probably not. But sometimes, it seems to be the case,” Dittmore said.
The article goes on to explain that they can also be a sign of remembrance.
