I found myself staring at a pair of white sneakers dangling over a power line on Wednesday. The shoes were covered in a layer of smooth ice. The sky was blue, and the sun was shining right on and through the ice. The shoes appeared to be covered in crystal. At first I thought maybe that seemed like a profound moment. Then I realized I was probably just a mostly furless primate fascinated by a shiny object.
