South Bend, Indiana Addresses Shoes on Powerline Issue

South Bend, Indiana, home of Notre Dame University, addressed their shoes on powerline issue by removing over 100 pairs of shoes in a recent sweep. Local TV station WNDU covered the clean-up and correlated the shoes with drug dealing in their news report.

Hanging shoe clean-ups focused on “weed and seed” areas of town. If shoes are hanging from powerlines in particularly challenged areas of your town, how about working to have them removed? People tend to associate the shoes with blighted neighborhoods, and as this news report states, they may be associated with other forms of nefarious behavior including drug dealing. Do you really want to contribute to that by allowing the shoes to dangle from the lines?
