The New York Times took at look at the shoes on powerlines phenomenon on November 15th (hat tip to Joe, commenting at tim.lauer.name ).

South Bronx Shoes on Powerlines
A few observations and quotes:
to represent, one young man said, “the ghetto where we come from.”
So to take pride in where you’re from, you choose to litter up your ‘hood? Generally, I think people choose to maintain and clean things they take pride in rather than trash them. Very odd.
There are different types of indifference:
1. Passive indifference: not caring combined with apathy. This is relatively harmless lack of non-activitiy.
2. Active Indifference: not caring combined with a non-caring action. This leads to a conflict between caring and non-caring people. This generally leads to problems fo rthe actively indifferent crowd since they’re generally behaving in ways that are socially - if not criminally - unacceptible.
What do you think? Any thoughts on the article? Indifference? Are you too passively indifferent to share your opinion?
