Shoes on Powerlines = Odds and Ends?
Is tracking shoes hanging on power lines an odd thing? According to the good people at Google Maps Mania who were kind enough to mention Shoefiti.com in a blog post yesterday, it is. Or maybe it’s just beyond categorization?
Shoefiti is not a typical mashup involving the graphical (Google map) display of information from another source. No siree. We create our own data, thank you very much.
Google Maps Mania: Odds and Ends..: “Odds and Ends..
Shoefiti tracks the locations of shoes hanging from power lines - This map was started to try to hold the local power company in Minneapolis accountable for their inconsistent responses to shoe removal requests. The map illustrates that shoes are removed in affluent neighborhoods but ignored in more challenged neighborhoods. Shoe locations are gathered through an email tip-line.”
For those who haven’t been to Google Maps Mania yet, be sure to check it out. People are doing a lot of interesting things with Google Maps, and GMM has become the defacto directory of all things Google Maps related.
