Shoefiti Strikes Midtown Manhattan

We continue working through shoe reports from the boroughs. Today’s update comes from Midtown Manhattan via The Known Universe:

While walking in Midtown the   other day, I saw a pair of dangling   sneakers and wondered whether or not I should take a picture of them. Ive   taken a lot of dangling shoe pictures, and a lot of other people have too, and   since there wasnt anything particularly unusual about this pair, I nearly passed   them by. That whole shoes on a wire thing is so overdone. But after walking   under them, I gave a final glance over my shoulder and saw the Empire State   Building looming in the background. Cool, I thought, Thats worth taking   a picture of.

Tourists come for the shoes?

The blog post’s comments includes a wide variety of theories on what dangling sneakers mean.
